Anima Recovery requires administrator/sudo privileges to access raw disk data for forensic recovery operations. This is necessary for deep sector analysis and recovering deleted files.

🍎 macOS Installation
- Download the DMG file
- Open the DMG by double-clicking it
- Drag "Anima Recovery.app" to the Applications folder
- Important: First time opening the app
If you see "Anima Recovery.app is damaged and can't be opened", this is normal for unsigned apps.
Solution (Choose one):
- Go to Applications folder
- Right-click (or Control+click) on "Anima Recovery"
- Select "Open" from the menu
- Click "Open" in the security dialog
- The app will now open and remember this choice
- Open Terminal
- Run:
sudo xattr -cr "/Applications/Anima Recovery.app" - Enter your password when prompted
- Open the app normally
Why does this happen? macOS Gatekeeper blocks apps that aren't code-signed with an Apple Developer certificate. This is a security feature, not an actual problem with the app.
🪟 Windows Installation
You will see "Windows protected your PC" because the app is not code-signed.
This is normal and safe. The software is not malware - Windows blocks all unsigned apps by default.
To install: Click "More info" → then click "Run anyway"
- Download the installer or portable version
- Run the installer (will show SmartScreen warning)
- Click "More info" on the warning dialog
- Click "Run anyway" to proceed
- Follow the installation wizard
- Run as Administrator for disk access
🐧 Linux Installation
- Download the AppImage file
- Make it executable:
chmod +x "Anima Recovery-2.5.0-arm64.AppImage" - Run with sudo:
sudo ./"Anima Recovery-2.5.0-arm64.AppImage"
- Download the .deb package
- Install:
sudo dpkg -i anima-recovery_2.5.0_arm64.deb - Fix dependencies if needed:
sudo apt-get install -f - Run:
sudo anima-recovery
